What to expect with a sports massage at JY Physiotherapy?
How a Sports Massage differs from a Regular Massage
Sports massage is a specific qualification that takes up to 6 months to complete the first level. The techniques used for sports massage tend to be deep soft tissue work to help get into those tight muscles and release any tension building up. Our sports massage therapists are qualified to Level 4 which looks at not only remedial massage but how to massage injuries. Sports massage is great for tight muscles, knots in the shoulders, tension through the neck and stiff quads or glutes from gym training. Often deep massage is great before stretching and you can get more out of stretching once you have had a massage.
What does a Sports Massage involve?
Each Sports massage therapist is different but a good one should always assess you and check whether you have any medical complaints, allergies or pains. They then will always get consent for treatment. Once this has been done then they do need to assess you to see how you move. Sometimes if you are looking to start regular massage its important for the massage therapist to understand how you move and where is stiff and they will also be able to tell you when they think it should be a physiotherapist that needs to address your issue.
Once assessed you will be asked to lie down and start treatment. We will always make sure have privacy to get ready and are comfortable. Getting the right amount of pressure is important as everyone can cope with different amounts of pressure, you should always be asked if it is comfortable and if you need more pressure then do say. If you want a specific area to be worked on then mention that at the start. If you are finding the massage too painful that you cannot relax it is important to say as well.
You maybe shown some good stretches after the massage. We are now offering a BLOCK OF 5 at £45 with one for free for the first 10 people that book.
